What to Expect

When you arrive at St. Luke you can expect to be greeted by warm and friendly faces. We regularly have visitors not only from Ottawa but from all kinds of different places in Canada and around the world.

The church in which we worship is beautifully ornamented and features a vaulted ceiling, stained glass windows, an altar painting, and intricate woodwork.

As you enter the church proper, there is a small table with church bulletins and other items on it. Make sure to grab a bulletin so that you are able to follow along with the service more easily. Also, feel free to grab a Portals of Prayer book or any of the other devotional material that you find on this table.

St. Luke worships in a style that is in keeping with traditional Lutheran worship. Our services are liturgical (that is, they follow a set pattern and feature sung or spoken responses between the pastor and the congregation) and we sing traditional hymns. Our church has a beautiful pipe organ and a grand piano that are both used regularly for musical accompaniment. Hymnals are located in each pew allowing everyone to follow along with the service. If you are curious about what our worship is like, you can view past livestreams of our services on YouTube.

The Sacrament of Holy Communion is celebrated on the second and fourth Sundays of each month at St. Luke. We practice closed Communion at St. Luke, meaning that only members of our congregation or other congregations with whom we are in fellowship are able to receive the Lord's body and blood. This practice is in keeping with the historic practice of the Christian church and is upheld out of Christian love and concern. We want to ensure that all those who commune at the Lord's Table are properly prepared for the tremendous gift they receive there. If you have any questions about our Communion practices, please email or call our Pastor Aaron Astley at saintlukelutheran@gmail.com or (613) 749-1731.

After our services at St. Luke, many of our members often linger and visit for a while. You are welcome to do so if you visit us, but are not obligated in anyway. There is a table with coffee and tea available at the back of the church and you are most welcome to make use of it.
